Located in the temperate zone, Dalian has a semi-humid warm-temperate monsoon climate with four distinct seasons and winter not too cold and summer not too hot. Temperature averages 10℃ over the year. August has the highest temperatures, averaging 24℃, daily high temperatures of over 30℃ lasting 10-12 days on end, and an extreme high of around 35℃. January is the coolest, averaging -4.5 to -6℃in the southern part and with an extreme low of about -20℃. Around 180-200 days of the year are frost-free. Dalian has a yearly precipitation ranging 550-950mm from southwest to northeast. About 60-70% of the yearly precipitation arrives in summer and often in the form of heavy downpours; 12-15% in spring; 15-20% in autumn; 5% in winter. Due to the regulation of the oceans, it often rains at night, especially in summer. Wind speed and change significantly with the turn of seasons: northerly monsoon in winter, southerly in summer, switch in spring and autumn. There are winds of and above level 6 for 90-140 days in a year along the coast and for 35-50 days in landlocked areas; more in winter and spring and least in summer.
